'We get about 15 cents of every procurement dollar spent by the federal government,' says Stephen Fuller, a professor of public policy at George Mason University and an expert on the region. 'There’s great dependence there.' And with dependence comes fragility. About 40 percent of the regional economy, Fuller says, relies on federal spending."

To exemplify Westboro Baptist Church’s disdain for decency, the Church announced that its protest group intends to picket Aaron Swartz’s funeral on January 15th. Open Access pioneer Aaron Swartz’s suicide last week prompted mourning throughout the Internet. In support of Swartz’s legacy, his family & friends, Anonymous initiated #OpAngel. Just as Anonymous countered Westboro Hate Group’s protest at Newtown after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre just one month ago, Anonymous members are gathering to protect the Swartz family from the Westboro group.

Washington National Cathedral will begin celebrating same-sex marriage ceremonies using a rite adapted from an existing blessing ceremony approved in August 2012 by the Episcopal Church at its General Convention.
